Republic of Ireland international Callum Robinson’s revealed he’s not been vaccinated against coronavirus, despite contracting it twice.

The West Brom forward has missed eight of the last thirteen Republic of Ireland games for virus-related reasons. Most recently he was absent from last month’s World Cup qualifier in Portugal after contracting coronavirus for the second time.

West Brom forward Robinson says he may decide to have it in the future, but won’t be pressured into a decision.

“There is people that want you do it which is right in their way. Everyone has a choice and what they want do it, I wouldnt force on people, it is your choice and your body”

Republic of Ireland manager Stephen Kenny says he’d prefer if his entire squad was fully vaccinated – but he’s not going to exclude players who opt not to take the jab.

Kenny feels it would be “radical and complex” to leave players out who decide not to take it

“I think for the association to come together and say we are not selecting anyone who has not got it (vaccine) would create problems.”

Minister for Sport Jack Chambers says it would be preferable if sporting figures showed ‘leadership’ on the issue of vaccines.

His comments come after Republic of Ireland player Callum Robinson revealed he’s chosen not to be vaccinated against Covid-19, despite catching the virus twice.

Minister Chambers believes it would be good if ‘sporting role models’ showed ‘positivity’ towards the vaccine rollout.

“It would be good to see leadership from players.” He said “We have seen huge uptake here amongst young people, massive uuptake. So it would be good to see all our sporting role models demonstrate positivity towards the vaccination role out.”
