The route for this year’s Carlow Triathlon has been announced.
Taking place on Sunday 14 May, the swim-cycle-run event will cross Carlow town from midday, before finishing up in the Town Park.
Starting from Carlow Rowing Club at 12 p.m. the triathlon first features a 750 metre swim (250 upstream and 500 downstream) in the River Barrow and finishes on the Laois side of the river in Carlow Town Park.
Thereafter follows a 20km cycle which takes athletes out of the town park, across Maryborrough Street, down Henry Street, Church Street and onto the Killeshin Road to Behan’s of Tolerton, where they turn around and return via the same route.
Finally, it’s a 5km run along Centaur Street, down the Barrow Track to a turnaround point, then straight back, crossing the pedestrian bridge and finishing with a lap around the Town Park.
Participation has been capped at 500 and the event has been booked out since February.
Some of Ireland’s finest triathletes and para-triathletes are competing and many have also represented Ireland internationally including at the Rio Olympics.
Carlow Town Park will feature free musical entertainment throughout the afternoon for those who wish to come along and enjoy the spectacle.
