Carlow Senior Hurling manager Colm Bonnar says the stop start fixture schedule with the recent inclement weather has disrupted preparations as they prepare for Saturday’s Division 2A Final clash against Westmeath.

Speaking to KCLR ahead of Saturday’s game, the Carlow manager says it’s a difficult time to play hurling and that Bank Holiday weekends having an extra effect on players plans.

“It’s not the ideal time to be playing hurling or trying to find form because it’s such a short window in terms of what they try to play this league”, says Bonnar.

“You need to hit the ground running kind of early January, which is difficult in terms of being at your best in hurling. It’s been stop and start, but I suppose if the weather hadn’t been as poor as it been and we got a straight run in the League, it would have been 5 games in 6 weeks.”

“That’s what players like, they like games and it accumulated with the final because of the stop start nature and players having holidays booked and Bank Holiday weekends and St. Patrick’s Day”

“A lot of plans had to be put on hold and you have to feel sorry for the players because obviously when they are given a schedule, they try and work their own life around that.”

Carlow v Westmeath is live on KCLR this Saturday at 3.30pm with thanks to the Step House Hotel, Borris.
