Eire Og 1-20

St Andrews 0-6

Eire Og took advantage of the extra man to see off St Andrews at ease in the first round of the Carlow Senior Football Championship at NCP on Friday evening.

A dubious red card for Jamie Clarke during the first half was a telling moment in the game and by all accounts it seemed harsh on first glance, however linesman John Hickey was a lot closer to the scene than any of us so called experts in the press box!

There was some great scores taken from both sides in the first half with Andrew Beaton nailing four of the best from play for St Andrews along with one from John Doyle, however Niall Quinlan and Eric McCormack done likewise for Eire Og.

At half time it was Eire Og who led by 0-9 to 0-5, but the YI’s cranked things up a notch after the break and a goal from Darragh O’Brien effectively ended the game as a contest just five minutes into the new half.

Jordan Lowry, Eoghan Ruth, Sean Gannon and Cormac Mullins all hit the target for the winners as well and in the end it was all too easy for Joe Murphys men.
