It’s like the Old Firm derby.
Sparks will fly and there’s likely to be plenty of good hurling on display as CBS Kilkenny and St. Kieran’s College are set to renew rivalries in the Leinster schools hurling championship after the former’s victory over Good Counsel of New Ross on Wednesday afternoon.
A flurry of scores for the James’ St. hurlers secured a 2-10 to 0-10 victory over their Wexford counterparts at the second time of asking having seen last week’s game abandoned due to injury.
It was Good Counsel to open the scoring after 4 minutes, stretching their lead to three points with eight minutes on the clock before CBS picked up their first goal of the day on the quarter hour mark. Trading single scores, the sides went in 1-3 to 0-6 at the break.
That pattern continued into the second half and with ten minutes to go the sides were still level, this time at 1-7 to 0-10. The final ten minutes proved to be vital, however, with Conor Drennan picking up a handful of frees and a goal to his name as well to give the CBS a 2-10 to 0-10 result to set up a meeting with St. Kieran’s College.
