Originally set to be run off before Christmas, the JJ Kavanagh & Sons senior football relegation final in Kilkenny has been re-fixed to mid January.

Conahy Shamrocks and James Stephens will finally get to see who remains in the senior ranks of football for the spring with the game set to go ahead at 1.30pm in Jenkinstown on Saturday 14 January. Kilkenny’s senior hurlers will meet Laois the following day in the second round of the Walsh Cup in Portlaoise.

Both sides started their senior football championship journey back on 1 April, Conahy beaten by Danesfort 0-12 to 0-06 with the Village bowing out after a first-round clash with Mooncoin. Both clubs also finished bottom of their respective groups in the senior football league, each failing to register a win.

Mullinavat reclaimed their Kilkenny senior football crown from Thomastown in May, falling at the semi-final stages of the Leinster intermediate club football championship at the hands of St. Mogue’s of Wexford.
