Olympic Champion Katie Taylor says that Darren O’Neill shouldn’t have had to go to the final Olympic Qualifier in which his Olympic dream ended with defeat on Monday night.

Speaking exclusively to KCLR in her role as Toyota Hybrid Ambassador, Katie says the whole squad will miss Darren in Rio…..

“So disappointing really. He shouldn’t have even had to go to this competition really”

“He was badly robbed in the last competition in Samsun in Turkey and it’s no consolation to him now but he really deserves to be on that plane to Rio. The whole team is going to miss him over there”

“He’s the captain of the team. He’s the boxer who we all look up to and he’s the boxer who he has been an inspiration over the years really so It’s so disappointing, and the whole team is just gutted for him really”
