The day that every Thomastown United fan has been waiting for is upon us.
Since the win over Navan Cosmos last time out all the talk has been about Shamrock Rovers coming to town.
Initially the fixture was supposed to take place at the Tallaght Stadium but a request from Thomastown to reverse the venue was accepted by ‘The Hoops’ and this has led to great anticipation and excitement.
It’s a fantastic opportunity for Stevie Walsh’s side to pit themselves against one of the big guns and the fact that the game is now taking place in United Park gives them every chance of an upset.
Speaking to KCLR ahead of tomorrow’s game, Stevie says it’s a brilliant draw for the club and for the town.
“It’s a massive occasion for the club. An awful lot of work is going on behind the scenes, and I suppose this week is the first week that we ourselves are kind of able to get into it because we had a Shield Quarter-Final last Sunday so we were concentrating on that but there is a great buzz around the place.
“We will do our best, we will give it everything we have and see where that takes us. Shamrock Rovers are probably the Manchester United of Ireland and probably the best known League of Ireland team in the country, it’s a brilliant draw for us and for the whole town”
It’s speculated that Rovers will be sending down a strong line up which will also contain some serious young players so it will be a big challenge for the hosts.
There is a certain element of freedom however when you are the underdog because you know full well that very little is expected of you outside the team set up so it often allows the small fish in the pond to express themselves more openly.
You can be sure that Thomastown will take the game to their opponents who are actually preparing for the new domestic season so there will be a great intensity to this game and it really is a huge opportunity for the hosts to pull off the biggest result in their history.
A large crowd is expected to descend upon United Park this Saturday, and kick off is at 2pm.
We Will have Live Commentary of the game on KCLRFANZONE.Com with thanks to Thomastown Credit Union from 2pm on Saturday
