Carlow man Ed Byrne will join back up with the Irish rugby team today as they get preparations underway for their Six Nations clash against Scotland on Sunday next.

Ed was released from the squad for Leinster’s PRO 14 game against Ulster on Saturday which they won 38-19 and booked their place in the PRO 14 final against Munster in a few week’s time.

Ed started the game and put in a big shift with Michael Bent and James Tracy in the front row, bagging himself a try in the 36th minute.

The game itself had a lot of yellow cards and one red after Andrew Warwick led with his elbow into the neck of Ed Byrne for referee Frank Murphy to show the prop a red card in the 31st minute.

Ulster’s Jacob Stockdale returns to the Irish squad having missed the opening three rounds through injury while Shane Daly will remain at Munster.

Josh van der Flier will go through the graduated return-to-play protocols this week in Ireland camp while there were no significant injury concerns from the other 12 players who featured in the Guinness PRO14 fixtures over the weekend.

Ireland Squad Rounds 4 & 5 – 2021 Guinness Six Nations Championships.
