Former Ireland Rugby International Paul O’Connell says that England causing Ireland problems at the ruck in the recent International is a concern ahead of the start of the World Cup.
Speaking exclusively to KCLR at the Ploughing Championships yesterday in Fenagh, Paul says it’s a concern that Ireland haven’t found a Plan B in recent months.
He said “Particularly England, they came up with a strategy to stop our kicking game and they have really caused us problems at the ruck and the ruck is where Ireland have really set themselves apart”.
“We hold onto the ball for long periods of time and we force other teams to give away penalties and make mistakes so when you have those strings you need to make sure you are adding other strings to your bow and we probably hadn’t seen that with Ireland in the last few months and I would say that is partly because and I am hoping for this because we are probably holding things back for the World Cup”.
