Evergreen ‘A’ brought themselves right back into contention in the St Canice’s Credit Union Premier Division after a 2-1 win over Freebooters ‘A’ on the Fairgreen on Saturday.
Mikey Drennan fired Evergreen ahead on the 15 minute mark after capitalising on an error in the Booters defence and that’s how it remained up until half time.
A big turning point came in the 57th minute when Paddy Cahill was dismissed on two yellow cards within seconds of each other which left the Freebooters players and mentor furious with the decision.
The game looked dead and buried when Drennan tapped home again in the 82nd minute to put Evergreen two up, however Freebooters hit back immediately through Ger Hayes.
They then had a great chance to level it via Cian Loy but he couldn’t guide his effort to the net and Evergreen held on for victory.
Both sides are now level in the League and Freebooters will be hoping that Thomastown can beat Evergreen in order to force a play off between the two sides again.
Thomastown and Evergreen also meet next weekend in the KCLR McAlmont Cup Final.
