Hot on the heels of Clonmel Town, Ferrybank AFC have been announced as the latest club to forge a partnership with current SSE Airtricity League First Division leaders, Waterford FC.

In a statement issued by the club, Waterford FC says Ferrybank AFC “have a huge playing membership consisting of their U5-9 Sockatot Academy, teams from U11-16 taking part in the Waterford Schoolboy Football League, Youth and junior teams taking part in the Waterford and District Junior League, whilst the last few years has seen a huge growth in the numbers of girls playing football in the Waterford Women’s League.”

Ferrybank AFC have produced numerous schoolboy and schoolgirl internationals with John O’Shea of course starting his football career at Ferrybank. Ferrybank and Waterford would also have connections over the years with Sylvia Lynch and Noel Griffin donning the Blues Jersey, Brian Mallon and today Matthew Sheehan is a current member of the Waterford FC first team squad. At U19 level Justin Croke and Sean Roche are also another link with both clubs.

Welcoming Ferrybank AFC into the Club Partnership Programme, Waterford FC Director of Football Pat Fenlon said “We are delighted to welcome Ferrybank AFC into our new club partnership programme. The facilities, structure, and huge playing membership of Ferrybank is very impressive and I know they are highly regarded in the Waterford and South Kilkenny area.”

“It’s very important for us to continue to grow and develop the club and get more people attending the RSC and I know Ferrybank already bring a great crowd to our games so this will be a very beneficial partnership.”

Gary Power Waterford FC Head of Youth Development added “I am delighted to have Ferrybank AFC on board now as our next club partner. Being from Ferrybank myself I know first hand how good a club Ferrybank has become over the last few years and they have always been great supporters of the Blues helping the club out on numerous occasion for facilities when they were needed.”
