There will be no Fitzgibbon or Sigerson Cups in 2021.

The covid-19 pandemic means there will be no third level championships staged in the remainder of the academic year.

In a statement, they say the uncertainty around when games will be able to recommence at club and county level have left them with no alternative.

Chairman of the GAA’s Higher Education body Michael Hyland says they are looking forward to a return to play in the next academic year.

IT Carlow had a very strong season last year with both the hurlers and footballers getting to the finals.

Their footballers got to their very first Sigerson Cup final against DCU however the Dublin side won the game 0-14 to 0-07.

Manager Pat Critchley says the black cards hurt them on the night.

The hurlers suffered a single point defeat in the Fitzgibbon Cup final.

DJ Carey’s men led by four points and half time and UCC were reduced to 14 men in the second half but the Cork based students turned it around to win by 0-18 to 2-11.
