Former Cumann Lúthchleas Gael Nickey Brennan says that a new look All-Ireland B Football Final should be played as a curtain raiser to the All-Ireland Senior Final.
The proposal for a new look All-Ireland B Championship will be voted on at the GAA congress early in the New Year, and speaking to KCLR on Monday Night Sport, Nickey says if the proposal was passed it would give a huge boost to the weaker counties….
“I would not be happy about it been played unless the Final was played as the curtain raiser to the All-Ireland Senior Final”
“I mean I think lets say if Carlow and Wicklow happen to get to that final, look what it would mean to those two counties to be playing as the curtain raiser to the Sam Maguire Cup Final and if you do that, then you are giving players something tangible to aim for”
“I think anything other than that is probably not going to get the benefit it possibly could so I am hoping that when they go ahead with it, whatever the format leading up into the structure of it is that they agree the final must be played as the curtain raiser to the Senior Football Final and then I think we are giving a meaningful space to the players from those counties who might be playing in that competition”
