Fourteen points from TJ Reid propelled Kilkenny to a four point win over Galway in the Allianz National Hurling League in Nowlan Park on Sunday.

Kilkenny survived a stern second half test from the tribesmen and manager Brian Cody says that the win gives his side a great chance of reaching the knockout stages of the league.

With just over 40 minutes gone, Kilkenny were leading 0-16 to 0-8 however Galway put in a huge shift in the second half of the game scoring 1-6 to Kilkennys 0-5 points.

Joe Canning grabbed a point in the 60th minute to bring the tribesmen to within a point however TJ Reid and Colin Fennelly opened the gap again.

Then on the 71st and 73rd minutes, points from Richie Hogan and TJ Reid managed to keep Galway at bay and the cats left Nowlan Park winners on a scoreline of 0-21 to 1-14.

Kilkenny travel to Páirc Uí Rinn next Saturday evening to play Cork.

Kilkenny Scorers – TJ Reid 0-14, J Maher, R Hogan, C Fogarty 0-2 each, C Fennelly 0-1.

Galway Scorers – J Canning 0-8, P Hoban 1-0, D Glennon, I Tannian 0-2 each,  J Flynn, P Brehony 0-1 each.
