In a landmark event at UPMC Nowlan Park, the Kilkenny GAA revealed its ambitious Corporate Plan for the years 2024-2030. Spearheaded by Phil Hogan, the comprehensive plan serves as a roadmap for the future success of Kilkenny GAA, addressing key areas crucial to the organization’s development and growth.

One of the pivotal focuses outlined in the plan is the cultivation of a ‘Player First’ mindset. Recognizing the importance of prioritizing the well-being and development of players, Kilkenny GAA aims to create an environment that nurtures talent and fosters personal and athletic growth. This player-centric approach is expected to contribute significantly to the overall success of the organization.

The unveiling of the Corporate Plan coincided with a significant shift in leadership, as Derek Lyng took over the reins from the legendary Brian Cody, who had been at the helm since 1999. This change in leadership signals a new era for Kilkenny GAA, with fresh perspectives and strategies expected to drive the organization forward.

Adding to the transformative atmosphere, former Kilkenny captain Michael Fennelly returned to the Black and Amber after managing Offaly. His appointment to the role of performance lead demonstrates Kilkenny GAA’s commitment to supporting emerging players and coaches in the county. Fennelly’s unique blend of on-field and off-field experience positions him as a valuable asset in the development of both individuals and the overall GAA landscape in Kilkenny.

Mark Dowling, Kilkenny’s under 20-manager, spoke to KCLR about the positive impact of Fennelly’s return, stating, “He’s brought a huge amount to our side of things. I’m sure that the minors and even possibly the senior setup would say the same. It’s been a great move from the county board to bring him in, creating that position and then bringing in someone of his caliber, someone who has experienced both inside the white lines and outside the white lines.”

As Kilkenny GAA embarks on this new chapter, the unveiled Corporate Plan and strategic leadership changes mark a pivotal moment in the organization’s history.

With a renewed commitment to player development, collaborative initiatives, and the establishment of the Kilkenny GAA Academy, the county sets its sights on a future filled with sporting success and community engagement.
