Antrim won their group with wins over Leitrim, Wexford, and Fermanagh. Meanwhile, Carlow beat Wexford and Longford and lost to Limerick in their group. Last weekend Niall Carew’s men went on to beat New York in the preliminary quarter-final in a 15-point to 10 win.
It was a battling performance, with the stateside team leading by two points at halftime. No doubt minds Barrowside were cast back to New York making history this year by beating Leitrim to win for the first time in the Connacht Senior Football Championship at the 23rd attempt.
One of the scorers on the day, to send Carlow six points ahead at one stage, was Palatine club man Conor Crowley who when speaking to Scoreline outlined his delight in younger Carlowvians watching on as the county achieves success in both codes;
“It was great to see the hurling have such success and hopefully, we can mirror them with The Tailteann Cup.”
“I think it’s all about seeing all the young kids out there and seeing how happy they are. Even just going around looking for our gloves and all of that. That’s what you want.”
“You want to show these young lads Carlow winning games and giving these memories. So it is a good time for Carlow GAA. But I think there’s a lot more to come for this team. “
You can hear more on this game tonight on KCLR Scoreline from 6pm with Robbie Dowling as he chats to Carlow manager Niall Carew
