Injury has struck for ‘Magic’ Myles Price ruling the Kilkenny pro fighter and Team Ryano member out of next month’s BAMMA 28 event in Belfast. Price has been due to face Rhys ‘Skeletor’ McKee (5-0) for the Lonsdale Lightweight Championship, the fight also marking Magic’s move up to lightweight.

Update: Both men have been engaging in a war of words on Twitter this afternoon, see the end of the article for more.

Rhys McKee has been speaking to Niall McGrath of Irish mixed martial arts outlet SevereMMA.com.

“I’m gutted but I called this, I’m sure someone else will be eager for the fight, regardless of who it is it will be the same outcome.”

“I don’t care who the opponent is. I look forward to completing in Belfast in front of my own crowd.”

Price had picked up a rib injury earlier this month, that injury ruled more serious and requiring three or four weeks away from training. With that in mind, the decision was made to remove price from the bout.

KCLR Fanzone reached out to Price for his thoughts on the failed bout.

“It’s gut-wrenching, but I’ll get my shot”, says Price. “It couldn’t be helped. Rhys is lucky I’m injured as I was en route to teaching him a lesson in MMA.”

“That title is mine – he’s just holding on to it. I’ll find him and beat his scrawny arse after he gets this bum for a replacement.”

At time of writing, a replacement opponent for McKee for the Lonsdale Lightweight Championship has yet to be announced. Whoever he faces on 24 February, he’ll be looking to extend his unbeaten professional streak to 6-0, having captured the belt at BAMMA 27 in Dublin’s 3 Arena last December.

Local interest in the card continues with ‘The Carlow Kid’ Andy Murphy in prelim action against Stephen ‘The Fury Killer’ Kilifin. You can read our pre-fight interview with Andy Murphy here.

Update 3.21pm: Since this story was first published, McKee and Price have kicked off some Twitter chats about their bout.
