Paul Townend says that Ruby Walsh and Willie Mullins have been of great support in enjoying his best season in which he has ridden over 100 winners for the very first time.

Paul is due to ride Cheltenham Gold Cup winner Al Boum Photo in today’s (Wednesday) featured Punchestown Gold Cup, and speaking exclusively to KCLR, Paul says that it’s been a major advantage in getting numerous more fancied mounts.

He said ” I never got close to riding 100 winners in Ireland before. I think last year could have been my best season with 86 or 87 winners and to break the 100 was brilliant”.

“A lot of it goes down to a good Summer last year, I got plenty of winners for a lot of trainers during the Summer and obviously then when I was in the shake up for the Championship, Willie let me on a lot of the Novice Hurdlers and things this year, Ruby stepped aside and let me ride them so that was obviously a huge plus and a big advantage for me”.
