Kilkenny’s David McClure has qualified in second place from the first-round heats at the European Freestyle Kayak Championships in Paris.

The Kilkenny Aqua Canoe Club competitor will now compete in the last ten in the semi-finals on Saturday morning.

He had a disappointing first run when he washed out of the wave which lost valuable seconds in the 45-second heat.

On his second rim, he scored a personal best with over 1600 points which combined with his first-round score ensured easy qualification to the semi-final on Saturday morning

Kilkenny man Kevin O’Connor is also competing at the event which is on the 2024 Olympic Slalom course.
