On Saturday 17 September at 2:00pm, around 600 participants of Ireland’s very first Medieval Marathon will set off from the grounds of Kilkenny Castle on a variety of selected routes, which will take in some of the county’s most celebrated and historic sites.
In association with their national charity, The Irish Motor Neurone Disease Association, the Medieval Marathon will be a fun day out for all the family, regardless of whether or not you are taking part. Visitors will have plenty of fun browsing the medieval stalls, enjoying delicious food, becoming an archaeologist for the day, among many other fun activities for all the family to enjoy.
Participants can choose from a variety of routes which will take in Kilkenny’s most consequential and historic sites, including the majestic grounds of Kilkenny Castle, before winding through the country roads and finishing on The Parade in the heart of the city. Completing your desired route, all participants will be rewarded with a bespoke medal and technical t-shit, along with being able to relax and enjoy at the medieval themed after party, which includes a well-earned goblet of mead and the sounds and smells of a medieval banquet.
Interested participants can register at Medieval Marathons official website, where they can choose from a variety of routes to suit their capabilities, including a 10km right through to a full marathon, details included below:
