Kilkenny’s Quilty puts Award recognition down to team performance

Kilkenny senior camogie forward Michelle Quilty says her recent Player of the Month award was down to how well her teammates have been performing.

The Mullinavat native was recognised by the WGPA for her performances throughout July, but speaking to KCLR, Michelle says no one’s place within the team is guaranteed.

“This year things seem to be going well, but at the end of the day I suppose it’s a team sport”, said Quilty in speaking with Michael O’Leary this week.

“It takes their whole panel of 25 players to work hard – which is happening – and everyone is pushing each other at training.”

“No-one’s place is guaranteed. There is always fighting (for places) which is great to see in the panel of players. I think the team is working really well so it’s not an individual thing at all (the award). It’s great to get them but it’s more about the team.”

The 2016 All-Ireland winning captain has put in a serious shift so far this season and looks set to be part of Kilkenny’s All-Ireland Final against Cork.

Sunday 9 September marks the third part of a trilogy of finals against Cork in recent years, Kilkenny winning out in 2016 while the Leesiders took the O’Duffy Cup home again in 2017.

Keep an eye on KCLRfanzone.com from next Wednesday as we begin our countdown coverage to this year’s All-Ireland senior camogie final.
