On the day that vaccinations for Covid-19 start rolling out in Ireland, Leinster Rugby have issued a statement regarding recent positive tests within the camp.

Two unnamed senior players have tested positive – one within the latest round of PCR testing and one outside the window.

Both players are self-isolating.

Leinster’s St. Stephen’s Day clash against Munster was called off with test results at the time due to be investigated.

The latest round of PCR testing at Leinster Rugby was carried out on Monday morning for 104 players and staff with 103 negative results.

The statement continues “A number of close contacts of the two players have been identified and these players are also self-isolating. The HSE has been informed in accordance with public health guidelines.”

Training resumes today ahead of their first game of the 2021 calendar year.

The Blue’s first game of the year is this coming Saturday night against Connacht with a 7.35 pm kick-off.
