The 2017 British & Irish Lions tour is underway as all 41 Lions and staff gathered for the first time in London on Monday with Warren Gatland describing the day as “kind of like the first day of school”.

We’re just under a month away from the Lions’ first game against New Zealand Provincial Barbarians on 3 June and with a lot of names pushing for Test day jerseys, here’s a look behind the scenes at what went on for administration day.

Leinster’s Sean O’Brien is joined by provincial teammates Robbie Henshaw, Jonathan Sexton, Tadhg Furlong and Jack McGrath along with CJ Stander, Peter O’Mahony, Conor Murray (Munster), Jared Payne, Rory Best, Iain Henderson (Ulster).

The Lions depart to New Zealand on 29 May with this year’s tour lasting six weeks, culminating in a three-Test series against the All Blacks. The first Test which will take place in Auckland on June 24 with the second on July 1 and the third on July 8.

This is the first in a summer series of articles covering the 2017 British & Irish Lions Tour to New Zealand that we’re calling ‘Between The Lions’. KCLR wish Sean O’Brien and all those involved in the Lions trip to the southern hemisphere the very best of luck.
