Kilkenny’s Denise Gaule says it is “unbelievable that Kilkenny are the 2020 All-Ireland champions”.

Gaule, who scored the decisive goal to give Kilkenny a three-point lead heading into additional time, was lost for words after the game.

“I can’t believe it. I don’t know what I’m feeling to be honest. I’m just absolutely delighted.”

The Kilkenny sharp-shooter, who will almost certainly be a major contender for Player of the Year, also spoke about the impact of having no supporters throughout the year.

She said: “We’re in it together and that’s the way we looked at it before the match started. We said to each other that we don’t need anybody else here but ourselves.”

Gaule highlighted the importance of everybody performing well to help them overcome the challenge that Galway would pose as reigning All-Ireland champions.

“I’m just delighted with everyone’s performance. Thank God we’re coming away on the better side of it this time,” added the 2016 Player of the Year.

Gaule can certainly be satisfied with her contribution to Kilkenny’s All-Ireland title this year.
