Evergreen manager Packie Holden says Mikey Drennan is enjoying his football since coming back on home territory.
Mikey will play for Evergreen in Sunday’s last-sixteen FAI Junior Cup game at home to Willow Park.
“Mikey seems to be very happy”, says Holden in speaking to KCLR Sport on Tuesday.
“He is playing very well, fitted into the group very well both from training and playing and the social side of things, he has been a real bonus to our group and we are reaping the rewards.”
“I think Mikey is very happy to be home amongst his friends, he is quite a home bird, and it’s great to have him back in Evergreen where it all started so we are delighted to have him.”
In May of 2016, Drennan went public about his mental health struggles, saying he would be taking time off from the game to figure out how best to take care of himself. Having spent four tough years with Aston Villa, Drennan returned to Irish football with Shamrock Rovers and was in his second season before revealing he would be stepping away.
Now back with home club Evergreen, his years of professional football experience will be a much welcome boost to Evergreen as they chase cup glory this season.
