Local man Mikey Drennan is flying high with Shamrock Rovers in the Airtricity Premier Division. While the Tallaght-based club didn’t bring home the league title this year, the Kilkenny native does take one award home with him as the club’s top goalscorer with 12 goals in all competitions.
Rovers finished third in the top tier this season, two points off runners up Cork City and thirteen shy of champions Dundalk.
Five years on from lining out for Kilkenny’s Evergreen FC before securing a move to the youth ranks of Aston Villa in the summer of 2010, Drennan was picked up by Shamrock Rovers in January this year, signing a two-year deal.
He picked up the award (above) on Friday night last as Rovers closed out their season with a 5-3 victory over bottom side Drogheda United. Having trailed 2-1 at the break, Danny North exploded in front of goal with a hat-trick, including a penalty on the stroke of full time. Drennan came on for his last league appearance of the season as a 65th minute substitute for Patrick Cregg.
