It was a successful day all round for Kilkenny clubs in Leinster Today as both Mooncoin and Carrickshock qualified for their respective Leinster Finals.

At Nowlan Park Mooncoin never looked troubled by Westmeath side St Oliver Plunketts despite finishing the game with 13 men.

With Eamon Hennebry causing havoc on the edge of the square, it allowed Michael Grace to slip in under the radar and he helped himself to 0-4 from play as Mooncoin led 1-8 to 0-4 at the break, with the goal coming from Kevin Crowley’s penalty.

Hennebry then goaled just after half time but then John Fitzgerald was harshly dismissed on a striaght red card for an innocuous clash with Aaron Craig.

Paddy Lynam then saw his long range free end up in the net and they laid siege on the Mooncoin goal in the last quarter after Grace was then dismissed on two yellows, but the home side helped firm and points from Cormac Fleming sent them through to the Junior Decider on a scoreline of 2-11 to 1-7.

At Trim Carrickshock prevailed against Kilate on a scoreline of 2-12 to 2-9.

Darragh Brennan and Mark O’Dwyer goaled early on for the visitors, but Kiltale scored a goal of their own from James Kelly in between those strikes.

At Half time it was 2-5 to 1-3 in favour of Carrickshock.

But Kiltale got back into it and were level at 2-5 to 1-8 midway through the second half.

Richie Power was introduced then and he along with Michael Rice gave Carrickshock a lift in the last quarter and they led by 2-12 to 1-9 in injury time.

A late goal from Jack Regan proved consolational and Carrickshock will now play Celbridge in the Leinster Intermediate Final.
