Walter Walsh says that coming up against the Kilkenny defenders in training is beneficial as they are amongst the top defenders in the country.

Speaking to KCLR ahead of Sunday’s All-Ireland Final showdown, Walter says that marking the Kilkenny defenders in training helps greatly for matches, and added that Liam Blanchfield proved his talent in the All-Ireland Semi-Final replay victory over Waterford.

“Liam is an excellent hurler. He is very young too. He is still only 19. I suppose Brian threw him in there and we all knew how talented he is, and how good he is and he just showed that on the day. He was a massive reason for us winning the game that day”

When asked about marking the Kilkenny defenders in training helps when it comes to matchday, Walter added,

“Padraic Walsh, Kieran Joyce, Joey Holden, all these guys they are excellent excellent hurlers and I suppose they are nearly the toughest you can come up against in training marking these guys, and if you can get a few of scores off these lads, there is no reason why you cant get a few scores off anyone else in the country”

Walter also says improvement needs to be made if Kilkenny are to retain their All-Ireland.

“They are playing excellent stuff and have players who can put the ball over from anywhere. They are very wristy hurlers and those players are always going to be a threat to us to win the All-Ireland and it’s no different this year.

“If we are going to beat Tipperary, we need to up our game again because they are playing so well.”
