Niall Andrews captained Evergreen to another Premier Division title in Kilkenny on Sunday last.
The city side, having seen off Thomastown in the previous weekend’s KCLR McCalmont Cup Final, secured the league title in Sunday’s playoff against their county rivals.
Speaking to KCLR in the wake of their win, club captain Andrews says it’s the strength of their panel that’s been a major factor in their success.
“It’s a great group that I’m involved in”, he says in speaking with Michael O’Leary.
“I’m lucky enough in that I’ve been involved in the club for a good few years, and it’s really to do with the group. We went out without Sean (Barcoe) and Mikey (Drennan), who have been huge players for us. The lads that came in really stepped up and Gary (Maher) has tried to build , Packie Holden before that, Eddie McEvoy – all the managers – to build a group that any player could start on any day.”
“There is no real first choices. The players that come in do and do a job. That’s a definite reason for our success, the quality throughout the group.”
