Galway hurling board chairperson Paul Bellew has been elected as the new Galway GAA chairman, defeating outgoing football chairperson Kevin Clancy 167-97 in Tuesday night’s online convention.
The vote sees a person with a hurling background become chairman yet again.
Bellew is the current Galway hurling board chairperson and he outlined his targets for Galway GAA in his proposal to become chairman.
There has not been a Galway GAA chair from a football background since 1989 and all three in the last century have come from Dunmore.
Bellew replaces Pat Kearney who stepped aside following the completion of his five-year term.
