Ten days have passed since we started to scratch the surface of normality again. As part of restrictions easing, gyms throughout the country have been allowed reopen after a tough stressful year, for workers & patrons. I know I missed it something shocking

You forget how much the environment can help, lifting weights out the backyard or doing pushups just didnt cut it. I found hard to gee myself up in the last year, instead taking to the roads for a bit of running. Due to circumstances, I did not actually feel all that comfortable going back the last time the gyms opened up. So I had been out of the weights room since March 2020 by this stage. Despite enjoying the running, I was always ran by my gym longing and waiting for the day I could return, vowing to never take it for granted again.

Then it happened, the doors reopened on Monday the 7th and I felt something I had not felt in a long while, excitement. The place was pristine, the protocols kept & staff helpful. Any apprehension I had previously just dissipated. It felt like the country had turned the corner by now, hope was in the air.

The plan for the day was chest and triceps, I was intrigued as to how much my strength was maintained or had dropped during the pandemic. I did not have long to find out, it was alot! No cause for concern though, I have been here before, its a process, and one I am fully recommitted to. It’s not just for the purely aesthetic nature but just the positive routine it brings. Plus anytime you get to blare Rammstein in your ears for an hour is always a pleasure.

Leaving that day, I was genuinely on a high and have been every other time I have left there in the last ten days. You get a sense of this throughout the whole gym going community. Physical and mental well-being all been exercised at the same time. People are bouncing, snapchats are being sent to friends and businesses are bustling again.

With the pubs somewhat reopening that Monday aswell, many could of easily waking up Tuesday morning with a sore head instead. I would’nt begrudge anyone a sore head either, it’s been a tough slog but it is just so nice to have options again!

How you all feeling out there?
