Waterford United have continued to bolster their squads with signing of Paulstown twins Paul & John Martin from St Pats.

The club released a statement via Facebook and outlined the following:

“Preparations are continuing at a fast pace for Waterford FC’s Under-19 squad as manager David Breen has completed the signings of another four players for the coming season.

“With the Blues facing an away trip to Eamonn Deacy Park on the opening day of the season, Breen is continuing to put together an exciting squad of players that will be hoping to challenge for the Under-19 League Southern Elite Division title.

“His latest signings will see the first set of twins at the club since Cory and Evan Galvin played for the club a number of seasons ago, as Kilkenny duo Paul and John Martin join from St Patrick’s Athletic. Wexford-born Eddie Black and Michael Carroll have also joined the Blues ahead of the new season.

“The first of the four signings, Paul Martin moves to the RSC after spending two seasons at U17 level with St Patrick’s Athletic. A talented goalkeeper, he has been capped for the Republic of Ireland at underage level up to U17 level.

“His twin brother, John, also joins the club after spending two seasons with St Patrick’s Athletic and he can play central or attacking midfield primarily. Like his brother, he has also been capped for Republic of Ireland up to Under-17 level after playing his schoolboy football with Dublin side Belvedere.

“Also signing for the club is Wexford-native Eddie Black, who joins from Bunclody FC and has the experience for playing in the League of Ireland Under-17 League with both Bray Wanderers and Wexford Youths. A central midfielder, he is an exciting player hoping to step up at Under-19 level.

“Completing the list of four is another Wexford-native, Michael Carroll, who signs for the Blues from his hometown club Shamrock Rovers FC. Michael, who can play at centre midfield or as a winger, previously played with Wexford Youths and is the youngest member of the Blues Under-19 squad.”

Commenting on his latest additions to the Blues Under-19 squad, manager David Breen said:

“I’m delighted to get the four lads on board and they are new faces to the club. We have international experience with the two Martin twins and I saw John play for St. Pat’s in the semi-final against the Blues last season. He looks an exciting player.

“Eddie Black is a player that has impressed me in the assessments. He is a strong physical and ball-playing lad, while Michael Carroll, who is also eligible for our Under-17 team, has a lovely left foot and I welcome the four lads to the club.”
