Former Leinster and Ireland Out-half Mick Quinn says Joe Schmidt is doing the right thing by trying out more of the less experienced players for their three test series down under in Australia.

Speaking to KCLR, Mick says the less experienced players need to be given time to prove they are good enough before next years World Cup.

“I think Joe Schmidt is going to try out his players on this tour and he is determined to do that because he can’t go into a situation where he goes into the World Cup with guys who haven’t played games at this level.

“He’s sort of sacrificing the idea of putting the strongest team out and getting the strongest result in every case by doing this, but I think he is doing the right thing.

“He has got to try the guys because otherwise he won’t find out if they are good enough or not,” he said.
