Kilkenny Under-21 manager Eddie Brennan says the work-rate was most pleasing as they defeated Dublin in last nights Leinster Quarter-Final.

Speaking to KCLR, Eddie says they responded well when Dublin had their purple patch inside the final quarter.

“There was a huge amount of graft in fairness. I think our tackles tonight were excellent. I suppose I felt there was a few times we were very borderline and there mightn’t have been frees and I think there was a few very soft frees that kept Dublin in it.

“But to be fair to Dublin, they didn’t go away and look the key to it was when they got their purple patch we responded and John Donnelly came in and got two excellent points.

“Look overall we are just delighted with the result and it’s just great to get an extension for another three weeks,” said Brennan.

Man of the match Billy Ryan scored 0-4 from play and said that last years shock defeat to Westmeath was most definitely a motivating factor.

“We are just happy to come out with the result, we lost to Westmeath last year, I’d say the whole country knows about that.

“We took Dublin seriously, very seriously, we gave them a lot of respect and we just wanted really to come out with the win and thank god we did.

“A lot of people were writing us off and you know yourself, when you write someone off, it’s only going to urge them on.

“The first day we met, we had a meeting and said what happened last year happened last year and we are just going to move on now and we are going to take every game as it comes and we are going to try and win them,” he concluded.
