Two-time Intercounty and Club All Ireland winner Richie Reid has been nominated by Shamrocks to be Kilkennys intercounty captain coming into the new season.
Clubmate and Two-time young hurler of the year Eoin Cody has been put forward as vice-captain.
The goalkeeper turned midfielder, Reid is taking over from Adrien Mullen, who himself took over from Colin Fennelly, who was next in line after from Richie’s brother TJ Reid.
Since Ger Fennelly in 1979, there have been 18 times a Shamrocks man has captained Kilkenny. A Reid has held the armband four times outdone by the Fennelly’s who have managed that accolade a staggering eight times.
Of those 18 times, Kilkenny has gone on to win the All Ireland seven times and the Leinster title nine times.
Dicksboros Cillian Buckley was the last Captain of Kilkenny not from Shamrocks after the Boro defeated James Stephens in the county final in 2017.
