Rumble on The Rock – Povetkin v Whyte 2

Just over seven months ago Dillian Whyte took on Alexander Povetkin on August 22nd 2020. Whyte was in charge of most of the fight, until he was stunningly knocked out by the Russian in the fifth round. Since then Whyte has been keen for revenge, with November and January initially touted as possible dates for the fight. However a bout with coronavirus for Povetkin, a claim Whyte disputes, has seen the fight being finally set for March 27th in Gibraltar, in a battle described as “The Rumble on the Rock”

A reminder of what happened last time these two met :

Main Event :

Whyte is apparently more focused coming into this clash, having been in training for the last 20 weeks. The WBC interim championship is up for grabs and with that, it is presumed that the winner of this fight will meet the eventual winner of Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury bout.  Whyte immediately activated his rematch clause after his spectacular loss to Povetkin in the fifth round back in August’s Matchroom series fight. While The Body Snatcher Whyte will be confident heading into the bout, Povetkin’s power will be a concern so it will be interesting to see if Whyte will be more cautious then normal. He was on the offensive for most of the last fight, knocking Povetkin on the ground twice. Povetkin may invite Whyte onto him again, safe in the knowledge he has tremendous knock-out power.

Speaking about Whyte world title ambitions promotor Eddie Hearn said, “If he loses against Povetkin, that is out – and it’s not just out for six months or a year. That could be out forever no doubt heaping pressure on the British boxer. The feature bout is not expected to be earlier than 10.30pm.

Ricky Hatton’s son, Campbell Hatton, is also in action and making his professional debut at super-featherweight.
