Tuesday looks like it’s bringing some rainy conditions across Kilkenny and Carlow, so before the umbrellas need to come out, let’s get stuck into the headlines of the day. Got a story to share? Email [email protected].
Tickets please
Tickets are going on sale this morning for the All-Ireland senior hurling championship semi-final next month, beginning with the sale of Galway and Limerick tickets at 10am. They’ll meet on Saturday July 8th at 6pm in Croke Park with Kilkenny due to take on Clare for the second time two years at this stage on Sunday July 9th, that game with a 4pm throw-in. Those tickets will go on public sale at 12pm – pick yours up here.
Tickets for either semi-final are priced in the region of €50 for adults, with Juvenile, student and OAP tickets will only be available in the Cusack and David Stands.
Both semi-finals are going to be preceded by one of this year’s All-Ireland senior camogie championship quarter-finals which – depending on results this coming weekend and the subsequent draw – could see All-Ireland champions Kilkenny head to Dublin. Kilkenny have to play Tipperary in UPMC Nowlan Park this coming Saturday where they could end up in the semi-finals, the quarter-finals or out of the championship altogether.

A special homecoming
Team Ireland are back on home soil following the Special Olympics World Games in Berlin last week. Carlow and Kilkenny were well represented and tonight will see a special homecoming parade and reception for Graignamanagh’s Gemma Haire who was involved with the equestrian team. A parade gets underway at Kissanes Pharmacy on Upper Main Street around half past seven, making for the Barrow Valley Activities Hub with musical contributions from Robert Grace, Bob Grace, Ruairi Flynn and more. If you’re planning on heading along and you’ve got a Kilkenny jersey to hand, we reckon she’ll appreciate the black and amber support.
Premier League latest
According to this morning’s reports, Roy Hodgson is set to remain on as manager of Crystal Palace. The 75-year-old took over at Selhurst Park in March, and kept the club in the Premier League. Hodgson initially agreed a deal until the end of last season, having replaced Patrick Vieira, but it’s understood he’ll sign a new contract shortly.
We’re also hearing that Man City are going all out to ensure Declan Rice doesn’t end up at Arsenal by tabling a €90m bid for the midfielder – though West Ham are believed to have rebuffed the offer, holding out for an offer in the region of £100m. Chelsea’s Kai Havertz should have a £65m move to Arsenal finalised later this week while Ajax defender Jurrien Timber should be the subject of an improved offer from Arsenal, belever to be in the region of £42m.
Sevens bound for Paris?
Ireland’s men’s rugby sevens side can book their place in the European Games final this lunchtime. They take on Portugal in their semi-final. Should the progress be Ireland’s, they’ll play either Spain or Great Britain in tonight’s final. The winner of the tournament will qualify for the Paris Olympics.
