Gaelic Games

We have one live Game on KCLR this weekend with James Stephens going to Limerick to take on Castlegar in an All-Ireland Semi Final

Emma Gaffney who was player of the match in the county final and named to the Caman Caint team of the year, was a recent guest on the Caman Caint podcast, but she has been a recent enough edition to the Village.

Emma is from Galway and a former intercounty minor for the Tribeswomen. She said her clubmates have been nothing but welcoming since she joined this year, check out the full interview below :

Elsewhere Grennan College, unfortunately, came home from Balitore yesterday with a loss.

They were bested by Boyne Community College in the Leinster schools junior hurling semi-finals

Rugby

In what may spell bad news for Carlow’s Ed Byrne, Leinster will be boosted by the availability of Cian Healy for Saturday’s Champions Cup clash with Racing

The prop has been cleared to play after the red card he received against Ulster last weekend was overturned.

Healy was dismissed for a challenge on Tom Stewart.

Red card for Leinster's Cian Healy! 🟥

Following a TMO review, the referee shows a red card and Leinster will play the rest of this game with 14 men.

Former Thomastown player Colm Whelan has been officially unveiled by the FAI Cup champions Derry City after he signed on a two-year contract.

The 22-year-old netted 44 times in 66 games with UCD, helping them to a promotion in the process.

FIFA President Gianni Infantino says over 2-billion people have watched the World Cup in Qatar to date.

Reflecting on the tournament so far, Infantino described the group stages as the ‘best ever’.

Raheem Sterling is set to return to the England squad, but probably not in time to feature in Saturday’s World Cup quarter final against France in Qatar.

He left the squad last weekend after reports of a break-in at his home.

Hansi Flick is to remain as manager of the German national team.

The endorsement from the DFB comes on the back of Germany’s group-stage exit at the World Cup.

They suffered a shock defeat to Japan in Group E and eventually finished third.

Flick is now set to oversee Germany’s campaign at Euro 2024 – a tournament they will host.

Bad international managers English Edition:

  1. Don Revie – England failed to qualify for the 1976 Euros and then the 1978 World Cup in Argentina. He would go on to manage United Arab Emirates
  2. Steve McClaren – McClaren was the first England manager in 24 years to not qualify for a European championship.
  3. Graham Taylor – Famously called a turnip by an English newspaper, stemming from the dismal performances of the national team at the 1992 European Championship and failure to qualify for the 1994 World Cup.

Volleyball

Big congrats to the Kilkenny City Vocational School Senior Girls Volleyball team secured their place in the All Ireland Finals after dramatic matches against Presentation, Kilkenny, and Mount St Michael, Claremorris.

They are off to Dublin on the 14th for the finals

Racing

There’s a seven-race card at Clonmel this afternoon, which is subject to an 8 am inspection due to the cold snap.

If the meeting does proceed, it will get underway at 12.05.

Punchestown and Cork will monitor the weather situation ahead of their big race days on Sunday.
