SETU

SETU Carlow fell to a home defeat at the hands of University College Cork last night

The Higher Education Division 1 football match finished 1-07 to 2-12

The Division 2 football are out tonight as they travel to play Maynooth at 7 pm.

While the Senior University Hurlers head to Dublin to face UCD at 7.45 pm.

Football

Carlow football fans will want to know that Paul Kelly is the man tasked with getting Tipperary’s footballers out of Division 4 of the National League.

The Dubliner was handed a three-year term last night, almost five months after David Power’s resignation.

Kelly helped Wicklow to promotion to Division Three this year as part of Oisin McConville’s backroom team

Local Soccer

Last night in the KCLR Scoreline.ie Division 1 league in Kilkenny River Rangers got their first win of the campaign after defeating Freshford in the Fair Green

The final scoreline was 3-2 but still leaves the side bottom of the table after five games played.

Elsewhere Danny Doyle and Dean Kelly scored two as Carlow Oscer Traynor Team drew with Kildare in the Pat Whitty trophy last night.

Kilkenny opened their campaign with a 3-2 loss to Wexford at the weekend, but will face off with Carlow on the 15th.

Carabao Cup

Manchester United manager Erik Ten Hag has called for togetherness after another miserable night for the club.

They were beaten 3-nil at home by a much-changed Newcastle side in the last-16 of the Carabao Cup.

Miguel Almiron, Lewis Hall and Joe Willock scored the goals at Old Trafford.

Newcastle’s reward is a quarter-final trip to Chelsea. Chelsea were 2-nil winners at home to Blackburn Rovers last night.

Liverpool will be at home to West Ham in the last-8. Darwin Nunez’s third goal in as many games saw Jurgen Klopp’s side win 2-1 at Bournemouth. While the Hammers beat Arsenal 3-1 at the London Stadium.

Everton and Fulham will meet in the quarter-finals, following comfortable wins over Burnley and Ipswich respectively and Port Vale’s first ever League Cup quarter-final will see Middlesbrough visit Vale Park.

BASEBALL

The Texas Rangers have won the World Series for the first ever time, beating Arizona Diamondbacks 4-1 in the American contest.
