It was 6 of the best for Kilkenny in the Walsh Cup yesterday.
A brace of goals each from Jonjo Farrell and Richie Leahy and one apiece from Richie Hogan and Ollie Walsh gave the cats a 6-27 to 19 points win over Antrim at the National Development Centre in Abbottstown.
Farrell was involved in no fewer than four of Kilkenny’s goals. The Thomastown man scored two and unselfishly laid on another two when he could have easily went for the jugular himself.
It was an encouraging display from Kilkenny and they led by 2-12 to 10 points at the break as Farrell and Ollie Walsh found the net with Pat Lyng, Conor Martin, TJ Reid and Richie Hogan all among the scorers.
The winners were able to open up the Saffron’s defence at ease in the second half and it could well have been double figures in terms of goals scored if it hadn’t been for the sheer brilliance of Chris O’Connell in the Antrim goal who pulled off six point blank saves with no real protection in front of him.
Newcomer Richie Leahy did find the net twice in the second half along with Richie Hogan and Farrell and in truth if this was a boxing match it would have been stopped long before the final whistle.
