Sometimes Thing’s Are Just Meant To Be

Kilkenny's Katie Nolan speaks to KCLR's Kevin Regan

In life some people are of the opinion that everything happens for a reason.

Others believe that it is there destiny to go and achieve something.

If ever there was a theory to highlight the term ‘Destiny’ then Kilkenny Intermediate Centre Back Katie Nolan is just that.

Last Sunday in Croke Park, the St Martin’s youngster put in a stellar performance on the way to Kilkenny claiming a one point victory over Cork in the All Ireland Intermediate Final.

But in a bizarre twist, Katie could easily have been representing Carlow in Croker last week in their All Ireland Premier Junior title win over Armagh!

Katie was a member of the Naomh Brid club for a spell during the start of her underage days and actually went to school in Old Leighlin, the home of Carlow manager Mark Brennan and some of the Carlow panel.

Having lived relatively close to the Carlow/Kilkenny border, Katie moved to neighbouring Kilkenny club St Martins and has gone on to star for both club and county since that transition.

It’s crazy to think that both Carlow and Kilkenny ended up in Croke Park on All Ireland Final day with both tasting success on the day.

So one way or another Katie was destined to win an All Ireland medal last Sunday regardless of what county jersey she was wearing!

Carlow’s loss is most certainly Kilkenny’s gain and one would feel that the talented defender will go on to achieve great things in the black and amber for many years to come.
