The end of the 2021/2022 Kilkenny & District League season is nigh.

Last weekend saw Evergreen claim the KCLR McCalmont Cup for a fifth straight time, the club’s 18th win in the history of the competition.

During the week, attention turned to the conclusion of Division 2 with the Junior Division 2 Ken & Michael Byrne Cup at a rain-soaked Derdimus Park.

St. Canice’s, already crowned league champions this season were there to take on Castlewarren Celtic, with two city sides poised to serve up a cracker.

With weather conditions heavy, it was one-way traffic for St. Canice’s in the windup. A three-goal salvo in ten first-half minutes plus a fourth late on put the game beyond all doubt with Mark Flynn, Dylan Clifford and Owen McCormack (2) getting on the scoreboard with Eddie Clifford’s men cementing a league and cup double.

Evergreen chasing Premier Cup

At the same time in Goresbridge, there was another 4-0 result as Evergreen A booked their place in the final of this year’s Mock Lawlor Premier Cup with a comprehensive win over hosts Bridge United.

They’ll play Thomastown United A on Sunday week in a repeat of last weekend’s KCLR McCamont Cup final.
