Dublin secured their first victory of the round-robin stage with a solid five-point win over Carlow at Netwatch Cullen Park.
The match saw controversy arise with a contentious goal credited to Fergal Whitely, ultimately aiding Dublin’s cause. Additionally, Conor Kehoe was unfortunate not to score himself, his attempt thwarted by a save from Sean Brennan.
Despite the contentious moment, Carlow manager Tom Mullally chose not to lodge a complaint, stating, “We have to live in the real world and unfortunately ifs, buts, and maybes, could-haves, should-haves, would-haves, doesn’t work for us. We have to be sure what’s there if a ball’s in around the square.”
“It just can’t have any opportunity to get to the back of the net. It was probably going to take Dublin getting a goal for them to win the game. We were well aware of that and if you could keep out a goal, we were giving ourselves an excellent chance of kind of getting the victory. Unfortunately, that didn’t happen and look, that’s the way games go.”
Carlow now seeks their first victory and will next face Kilkenny, who secured a draw with Galway in their last outing.
