There were wins for Thomastown and Railyard in Friday’s action in the JJ Kavanagh & Sons Kilkenny Senior Football League.
Thomastown eventually overcame a gallant effort by home side Danesfort to run out 1-08 to 0-06 winners.
Points from Eddie Donnelly (2), Jack Cullen and Peter Connellan along with 1-03 from Rory Monks saw them move top of the table and claim their second victory of the campaign.
That late goal from the 2022 All-Ireland junior football winner leaves last year’s intermediate champions with two wins and a defeat from their opening three encounters.
Elsewhere, Railyard came away from Muckalee with the points after a 1-12 to 1-05 defeat of the hosts on Friday evening.
A fast start from the away team meant John Maher’s men suffered their second consecutive loss despite a spirited display.
It wasn’t until Railyard raced into a 1-05 to 0-00 lead after 15 minutes that Muckalee began to show their true selves as they reduced the margin to six points at the interval, 1-06 to 0-03.
While Tadhg Hunt and Shane Kinsella were able to kick fine scores from play for the home team to add to a second half goal, Railyard were able to hold on to finish their league with five points from three games.
County champions Mullinavat can leapfrog them into top spot if they defeat Clara by 18 points or more on Sunday morning.
