Tullow Ladies lifted the Paul Flood Cup on Wednesday night following a convincing victory over Old Belvedere.
Speaking to KCLR this week following the win, former club president Cora Browne hailed the effort that’s been put in by all players this season.
“We had fantastic support, all the men there, and nearly the same crowd there as we had for the Provincial Towns Cup final (over Easter weekend). We certainly outnumbered our opposition by seven or eight to one, which was certainly a great help.
We were nervous going in to it, beaten only once since the start of the season back in September. Last night made amends (for the league final loss). It’s our first trophy in three or four years and very sweet. The girls, after a shaky start, played great rugby and I’m very proud of every single one of them.”
“We had three wins over three teams divisions above us (Edenderry, Carlow, Naas), so that shows how good this year has been. We played super rugby and totally deserved our win. We didn’t relax until we got the third try – these were three tries you wouldn’t see at any standard, fantastic breakaway tries and a very sweet victory.
With midweek victories making for subdued celebrations, the Tullow ladies will join the men at Blackgates this Sunday where – hopefully for the club – they may be celebrating a third rugby title in as many weeks.
