UFC 257: Can’t stay up late tonight? Watch the cold open now to get you in the mood for Poirier v McGregor

Next stop, the Etihad Arena.

Ron Perlman is back once again to do his thing for the UFC’s cold open for UFC 257.

The first pay-per-view event of the year is topped by the man who became the biggest name in modern day mixed martial arts, Conor McGregor.

Love him or loathe him, there’s no denying the hype and excitement a McGregor card brings for fans of the sport.

When he makes the walk to the cage around 5 AM Sunday morning (Irish time), he’ll be facing the current #2 ranked lightweight in the UFC, Dustin ‘The Diamond’ Poirier.

The first time they met, September 2014 (hint for this week’s quiz), it ended in McGregor’s favour. But there’s a lot of miles on the road since then for both men and tonight’s contest is expected to be much different.

If you don’t fancy staying up late for the live event – maybe you’re more inclined to wait for the replays or social media highlights in the morning – you can at least watch the cold open for the first marquee event of 2021, just to get you in the mood.

And if you’ve got more time, here’s Ken and Shane chatting out this week’s activities on Fight Island with some musings for casual fight fans.

Watch: UFC 257 Cold Open

Coverage of UFC 257 gets underway around midnight; the prelim card from 1 AM and the main card from 3 AM Irish time.

Here’s how to watch.
