There’s no doubting that Kilkenny native Tom O’Connor has found a home for himself at Wrexham.
With over 20 games under his belt for the non-league side this season, O’Connor was in fine form for Sunday’s FA Cup fourth-round clash with Sheffield United, a side 70 places above them in the world of English football.
A one-time product of the Southampton academy, the 23-year-old bagged the go-ahead goal for Wrexham, first to react to a spilt corner, though the game would ultimately end 3-3 with fellow Irishman John Egan grabbing a late equaliser for the Blades.
Last year saw Wrexham and The Racecourse Ground come to global attention with the news that actors Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenny taking over the club, now the subject of the documentary series Welcome To Wrexham.
O’Connor earned a move to Burton Albion when his Southampton contract expired, and he scored five goals in his half-season (2021/22) with the Brewers in League One before signing for Wrexham in the January ’22 transfer window on a three-year deal.
