There was huge disappointment for IT Carlows Footballers last night as they lost out in the final of the Sigerson Cup against DCU.
The Dublin side won the 14 points to 7.
Speaking to KCLR after the game, IT Carlow manager Pat Critchley says the black cards hurt them on the night but DCU were very strong.
He said “They’ve a strong and well organised defence and all you know, so when they black cards hit, they’re very good at retaining possession and it’s hard enough to get it back with 15 (players), then it went down to 14, 13 and the game was gone”.
“We’ve had a fantastic year with the lads, they’re a great group of lads, they kept battling and fighting the whole way through, it’s still a year they will remember once they get over the disappointment of tonight”.
There is a winners medal coming back to Carlow though.
Carlow and Eire Og Footballer Jordan Morrissey was on the winning team last night.
He says Sigerson Cup medals in Carlow are a rare thing “It’s a medal I know that not many people will get and you only get a couple of chance at it, to take it and win it is great”.
“It was a tough game, it was tit for tat for a lot of the first half and when we went down to 14 men we had missed a couple of goal chances and it felt like this wasn’t going our way because Carlow were pushing us right to the edge, and then we just played the game at our tempo in the second half and controlled it, it was a controlled victory in the end”
