The Carlow Senior Football Championship takes a bit of a break but it was an action-packed weekend that just gone.
On Sunday it was a dramatic finish to the Tinryland and Eire Og game as Danny Moran got the winning point for Steve O’Meara’s side on 64 minutes. Then in the later throw-in, Mount Leinster Rangers got off the mark with a two-point win over Old Leighlin in the last of Sunday’s senior games.

The night before though Palatine put in a powerful performance against the county Champions Rathvilly winning 4-11 and 1-07. This marks two wins for two after the opening-round victory over Mount Leinster Rangers.
The performances have been positive, and some Pal fans will be thinking back to 2016 when they last won the county championship. However, when speaking to Scoreline Palatine manager Pado Flynn said he wouldn’t be allowing his side to get carried away with the opening result.

“Who remembers who won first-round games and second-round games? It is all about the end product. We are under no illusions, we need to get to a county semi-final.”
“We set out a stall at the start of the year, our first target was to get to a league semi-final so we could play one of the big guns, and Rathvilly firmly put us in our place then. The next target is to get to a county semi-final.”
“We still have Old Loughlin to play and they have some fine footballers with them.”
Opening proceedings this weekend was Bagenalstown Gaels besting Ballinabranna by four points.
